Christen B X Sofar Baltimore

Secret Location in Mt. Vernon

Sofar Sounds is reimagining the live event experience through curated, intimate performances in 438 cities around the world.

At Sofar, we like to ask: who's ever been to a bad gig?

For some, the crowd was too loud or maybe the beer was warm. For others, the sound system wasn't doing the artist justice. Or maybe someone was in the line of view, snapping selfies all night. Whatever the experience, it just wasn't what you hoped or expected. The magic of a live event experience has been lost.

Sofar Sounds was founded to bring back that magic.

In 2009, Rafe Offer invited some friends over to a London flat for a low-key, intimate gig. Eight people gathered in the living room to listen to live music performed by friend and musician Dave Alexander. They shared a drink, and sat on the floor, attentively listening to the music. The room was so quiet, you could hear the clock ticking in the background.

Quickly, what started as a hobby in London spread into a global community for artists and audiences to come together in unique and welcoming spaces - with an added element of surprise - to share, discover, create and, hopefully make a friend or find their new favorite band along the way.

Today, Sofar Sounds is a community of thousands of artists, hosts, fans, travelers and more, putting on hundreds of secret, intimate events per month, across 438 cities around the world.

You're invited. Come on in.

Christen B X Philadelphia Folk Festival

 —  —

Old Pool Farm , Clemmers Mill and Salford Station Roads , Upper Salford Township, PA 19473

If you are like thousands of music lovers on the East Coast, you head for Upper Salford Township, Pennsylvania, a little more than 35 miles outside of Philadelphia, where the legendary Philadelphia Folk Festival transforms a working farm into a magical, musical sound park. This cherished event is the longest continuously running outdoor music festival of its kind in North America and will celebrate its 58th Anniversary, August 15-18, 2019 at the Old Pool Farm. Known to present superstars and rising stars alike, plans for this year’s summertime extravaganza are well underway! The event is unique in that it is presented by a non-profit arts education organization, the Philadelphia Folksong Society, and is operated with the help of 2,400 dedicated volunteers. The Folk Festival is a perfect family event, with puppeteers, jugglers, aerialists, storytellers, hands-on crafts and of course, kid-oriented musicians gathering in Dulcimer Grove, the shady area that has become a haven for folk fans 12 and under. Children up to 5 years of age are admitted free in the campgrounds; children up to 11 years of age are admitted free to the concert area. Older kids, 12 to 17, are eligible for the special “youth ticket”, allowing them into the festival for half the regular gate price, when accompanied by an adult.

Madison McFerrin- Opening - Christen B

 —  —

Motor House, 120 W North Ave, Baltimore, MD 21201

Motor House presents Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter (and daughter of Bobby McFerrin) Madison McFerrin to Baltimore on Sept. 21. McFerrin’s soulful take on a cappella has been praised by critics, including the New York Times, DJ Gilles Peterson, and Pitchfork, which named her as one of its “Rising Artists,” noting how McFerrin’s style offers an “understated, compelling testament to the power and dexterity of the human voice.” One of her goals in performing her music is to spread love and positivity. This is McFerrin’s only show in the DMV area. Tickets are $15.
